Course Introduction

This Prospen Africa Introduction to Six Sigma workshop is designed to build a solid understanding of Six Sigma basics, incorporating practical exercises throughout to demonstrate key principles and tools that are applicable in any industry.

Six Sigma is a disciplined, data-driven approach and methodology for eliminating defects in any process. It seeks to improve the quality of process outputs by identifying and removing the causes of defects (errors) and minimising variability in the process.

This three-day Introduction to Six Sigma course consists of presentations, led discussion, and workshop sessions, and incorporates a thorough review of the Six Sigma problem-solving methodology: Define – Measure – Analyse – Improve – Control (DMAIC).

Course Objectives

By the end of this Introduction to Six Sigma course, participants will be able to:

  • Explain Six Sigma’s core principles and terminology, including defects, process variability, and customer focus
  • Apply the DMAIC methodology (Define, Measure, Analyse, Improve, Control) to structure a process improvement project
  • Use basic statistics to collect, analyse, and interpret process data
  • Apply core Six Sigma tools: histograms, Pareto charts, fishbone diagrams, root cause analysis, and design of experiments (DOE)
  • Use control charts and statistical process control (SPC) to sustain improvements and close out a project
  • Explain how Lean principles complement and integrate with Six Sigma
  • Draw on real-world case studies and group discussion to identify best practices and lessons learned

Who should attend?

  • This Introduction to Six Sigma course is designed for delegates who wish to gain a solid understanding of Six Sigma methods, enabling them to apply best-practice tools and confidently deliver process improvement projects. No specific qualifications or experience is required.
