Course Introduction

Credit operations sit at the centre of financial stability and institutional credibility. Regulators are tightening expectations on anti-money laundering, consumer protection, data privacy, and provisioning. Portfolios are under pressure from currency volatility, high interest rates, and slower growth. Digital lending has also opened credit to millions of new borrowers, and with it new forms of fraud, over-indebtedness, and conduct risk. Reactive, checklist-style compliance is no longer enough.

This five-day programme turns risk control and compliance into a practical governance tool across the whole credit lifecycle, from origination and appraisal to monitoring, restructuring, and recovery. Participants learn to design credit processes that are compliant by design, build and test internal controls, read early warning signals, apply the expected credit loss approach to provisioning, and respond to changing regulation. The programme also covers the ethical and behavioural side of control, and the use of data analytics, RegTech, and AI, together with the controls needed to use them safely.

Course Objectives

By the end of this Risk Control and Compliance in Credit Operations Training programme, participants will be able to:

  • Explain the principles of risk control in credit operations and the key control points in the credit lifecycle
  • Identify, assess, and mitigate the major credit, operational, fraud, and conduct risks in lending
  • Design and test internal controls, including segregation of duties, maker–checker, and documentation and collateral controls
  • Apply regulatory and institutional credit policy requirements, including AML/CFT, sanctions, data privacy, and consumer credit rules
  • Design and run risk-based lending and monitoring processes, including affordability assessment
  • Detect early warning signals and red flags in credit portfolios, and act on them in time
